What’s it all about?

The Root Cellar is an interview and conversation-based project focused on the creative process. I sit down with people who do interesting things to talk about what it’s like to do what they do. Our conversations can range from very concrete talks about materials and steps to explorations of the feelings and thoughts that they experience along the way. Our experience of being alive is both at it’s most unique and paradoxically universal when we are creating. The Root Cellar is about listening. It’s about imagining. It’s about connecting. It’s about the experience and meaning of being and doing.

I started The Root Cellar in 2021. Before that I taught college and focused my research interests on the relationship between bodies, space and narratives. I worked briefly as a commercial photographer, taught photography at the Houston Center for Photography, and served as the managing editor of a literary journal called The Flexible Persona for six years.
